Mary Caroll Vera Renwick Fortune

Passed away peacefully at Arbour Trails Village, Guelph on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at the age of 88 years. 

Beloved wife of the late Walter Renwick (1995) and Donald Fortune (2020). Cherished mother of the late Mark (1980) (Lorraine) Renwick, Gail (Bob) Tanner of Petrolia, Linda (Bob) Reid of Bright, and Andrew (Wanda) Renwick of Belmore. Stepmother of Valerie Fortune (Steve) of Guelph, Carol Fortune of Carleton Place, the late Larry Fortune, and Keith Fortune (Lyra) of Thailand.

Remembered by her grandchildren Tara, Michelle, Mary, Carol, Brian, Emerick, Amanda, Angella, Mark, 15 great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren Jason, Leslie, Gabriel, Aaron, Lauren, Scott, Kristen and six step-great-grandchildren. Survived by sister-in-law June Will. Predeceased by her parents Justin and Vera (Dietrich) Will, and brothers Glen, Jake, Peter and Clair Will.

Mary was born in Essex County, but lived most of her life in the Belmore area, where she was married 42 years to Walter Renwick; they raised a family of four together on their sheep farm. They established a Maple Syrup business, and Mary made maple sugar candy and other products including lamb for sale at local markets. She was active in the UCW. When Walter died, she married a former sweetheart Don Fortune, and she became stepmom to another four children. They had 24 happy years together, traveled extensively, and were much loved grandparents.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at McIntosh United Church, 1 Bruce Rd 28, Mildmay, followed by a reception at Andrew Renwick’s farm.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to McIntosh United Church, Mildmay, Hillcrest Mennonite Church, New Hamburg, or St. Paul’s United Church, Petrolia, would be appreciated and may be made through the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira.
