North Perth resident charged after assaulting police officer

NORTH PERTH – A North Perth resident has been arrested and charged following an altercation with police that ended with an officer being assaulted.

On March 20 just before 8:30 a.m., the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police was called to a residence on Road 176 in the Municipality of North Perth, and was interacting with a person, when an officer was assaulted. The accused also caused damage in the police vehicle after they were arrested. The officer was not injured during the assault.

Jesse Dewispelaere, 20, of North Perth, has been charged with assault a peace officer and mischief over $5,000.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.
