North Perth council candidate – Listowel Ward: Grace Harper

BIOGRAPHY

I am a wife, mother, ‘gigi’ to three grandbabies and a chosen family new to Listowel.

I was raised on a farm, and moved to the Listowel area after my marriage to Ross Harper. I was involved in hockey and soccer. Sports teaches life lessons of fairness, hard work, teamwork, and mostly let the kids have fun. Great opportunity for parental involvement, and to grow community.

One of my greatest passions was my nursing career  in Listowel Memorial Hospital, and completed my career at GRH in Kitchener, ICU and Acute Care of the Elderly. I organized The Nursing Shortage and You Committee to address the Nursing Shortage. I received the Political Action Award from RNAO, and Nursing Excellence Nomination during Nurses Week. Nursing has taught me how life changing “to care” is.

BIGGEST ISSUE

Municipal councillor is the closest link between government and the people.

It’s about dealing with people in your community, understanding the issues and concerns they face and being equipped with the skills, confidence and ability to take action to make a difference.

North Perth’s website states: “North Perth is a community of character, integrity, fairness, responsibility, perseverance, optimism, COURAGE, respect, compassion, empathy, honest, inclusion.”

My question is are these lovely penned words, or North Perth values and beliefs?

We have been canvassing, giving opportunity to be your voice in council.

A citizen quoted, “If you are not doing what the public wants, why are you elected?”

We need to act NOW for a truck route, before agriculture land is allowed elsewhere.

Lack of policing is allowing excessive speed in residential areas, stop sign violations, disrespectful behaviour in our parks, parking, light and noise violations.

Another quote, “In four years what have you accomplished for the people of Listowel?”

What will my answer be?
