BIOGRAPHY
My name is David Ludington. Born 1960 and raised in Elma Township. Started farming on the multi-generational family farm on concession 16, Elma Township, I am presently employed by Home Hardware Stores, in the St. Jacobs warehouse for the previous 34 years. In 1981, I married my high school sweetheart, Gayle Turney. We raised three amazing daughters, Laura, Nicole and Mary Pat. I am thrilled that they returned to live in North Perth after completing their post-secondary education in Waterloo and London. In addition, we have seven grandchildren.
I have had a passion to serve my community from an early age with coaching minor baseball and hockey. I was a Charter member of the Atwood Optimists. An 18-year active volunteer firefighter with the Atwood Station. I was elected to represent Elma Ward in 2010 and served eight years. While acting as a councillor for Elma Ward, I enjoyed being on many committees – Planning and Advisory, Recreation Advisory; Elma Logan Advisory; Steve Kerr Memorial Complex; and the Library Board.
Undaunted by this, I feel I still have more to give this community that myself and my entire family call home. To move North Peth forward; I feel my experience and passion are needed as your representative at the municipal council table, I will also be fiscally responsible with your hard-earned tax dollars. I also promise that all my decisions will be made with fairness to all North Perth residents.
ISSUES
North Perth has many pressing issues that I see need to be addressed. Our finances need to be kept in check so that we don’t leave a financial mess for our future generations. Considering all the new development happening, we should be thriving as a community with a surplus of money, not a huge deficit.
Doctor and nurse recruitment is imperative for our growing community. We were working towards fixing this problem four years ago in co-operation with our Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance. I have a couple of ideas on how to assist with continuing this process.
Speed limits in our towns need to be looked at and, in my opinion, lowered to protect all citizens whether driving or walking on our streets. It is criminal to witness the speed some people drive on our streets or roads. Police presence and enforcing these speed-related infractions need to be addressed.
Truck bypass and fixing our roads in the rural areas to accommodate the growing size of farm machinery. Farming in North Perth is our biggest and most important business. I promise to do my best to do more for the farming industry.
In my opinion the services in Elma Ward, the buildings and roads have been neglected far too long. We need to have a plan in place for the EMCC; as nothing has been done in the past six years. The aging fire hall in Atwood also needs to be addressed. The downtown core in both Monkton and Atwood are non-existent. As my fellow candidates have mentioned, youth retention and affordable housing has become a problem in North Perth as Listowel has grown too fast for the services that we can afford to offer and that our citizens deserve.
On election day, I am asking for the support of Elma residents to vote David Ludington to represent them as an Elma Ward councillor.
I will bring a common-sense approach to all my decisions on your behalf and promise to be fiscally responsible with your hard-earned tax dollars. I encourage everyone that is eligible to vote to come out and vote. I am always approachable so call me with all your municipal concerns.
