BIOGRAPHY
I grew up on a farm near Belmore, attended F.E. Madill Secondary School and Western University for engineering. I then moved to the Collingwood area where I started a career and a family. In my spare time I enjoy playing soccer, hockey, hiking, gardening and coaching kids baseball.
We moved to Wingham in 2010 to be close to our family and I’ve worked as a project manager since that time. I joined the Wingham Karate Club with my wife and daughters, eventually becoming an instructor. I’ve also learned to play guitar. I currently sit on the Wingham Community Living board of directors. It has been very fulfilling to contribute and support a local organization. I also sat on the Howson Dam committee of council and have volunteered for the Muskrat Festival. I am a member of the Masonic Lodge and before we moved, I belonged to the Stayner Kinsmen. Participating in these community minded service groups has fit well with my desire to strengthen connections and be part of making our community the best it can be.
BIGGEST ISSUE
I think there are several key issues in this election. First, we need to focus on building strong communities and our communities extend beyond the borders of North Huron. When making decisions we need to make good relations with our neighbours a high priority. If we build good trusting relationships with our neighbours then opportunities for finding efficiencies, sharing resources, reducing costs and lowering taxes will naturally evolve. Second, we need to do all we can to increase housing availability as finding employees is one of the biggest issues for our local businesses and health care providers. I will support all community minded housing projects, whether built inside or outside of North Huron. We also need to offer flexibility to our local developers and builders so that we are considered an attractive place to do business. Third, we need to promote and take advantage of the unique features our community has to offer. We should maintain and improve on our trails, parks, and waterways as they provide immense benefits to our residents and attract tourists and workers to our community. This can be done by being open and welcoming to all volunteer community groups, especially those interested in fundraising to support these local initiatives. I believe there are solutions to every problem that will result in the improvement of our community. We just need to work hard, be creative, and work with our neighbours to find these solutions.
