BIOGRAPHY
My Name is Kelly Tiffin. I was born in Wingham and have always resided in northern Huron County. I was raised in Belmore, where I attended and graduated from Turnberry Central School. We moved to Wingham when I was a teen where I graduated from F.E. Madill Secondary School.
My husband Mike and I purchased our first home on the Morris side of Belgrave and after having two daughters Brooklyn and Mackenzie, we purchased a larger home on the East Wawanosh side of Belgrave just prior to amalgamation and have been in that same home now for over 20 years.
I have been an Associate Legion Member at the Wingham branch for 30 years and I have volunteered for many community events including the annual Fowl Supper in Belgrave. When my children were younger, I was very involved with their sports, helping to coach baseball teams, volunteering with the Huron Heat Girls Hockey organization and assisting with many competitive dance recitals and showcases often held in the Blyth Theatre.
For 18 years I have served my community working for the Municipality of Morris-Turnberry in finance and administration and have completed many workshops and municipal programs to help further my career as a public servant.
BIGGEST ISSUE
I feel that the key issue facing North Huron is that they still remain divided as three separate communities. I’d like to see the township move forward and together grow as one community to increase the assessment base and potentially help to stabilize the controversial high taxes.
I feel it would be a benefit for North Huron to work together to share services with other municipalities. This area is unique; the small municipalities of Huron County must depend on one another and work together to provide the services desired by the residents.
I want to see the community grow and not just within the boundaries of North Huron. In order to expand, we need to think outside of the box. After all, if the communities around us grow, would that not be of benefit to North Huron? New residents to the area could potentially work, shop and contribute to a healthy economy for the Township of North Huron.
I want to be involved in the discussion of spending tax dollars and help work towards a resolution for the issue of high taxes and investigate how other municipalities handle recreation and the high cost of having a venue such as the Wescast Community Complex, with the goal of at least breaking even financially.
Let’s get back to the basics and start fresh as one community with a council willing to make the hard but appropriate decisions for the entire township not only the urban areas. Every ratepayer in North Huron deserves to have a voice, so please allow me to be a voice for the ratepayers of the East Wawanosh Ward.
