North Huron councillor candidate – East Wawanosh Ward: Anita van Hittersum

BIOGRAPHY

My name is Anita van Hittersum and I am your current East Wawanosh council member for the Township of North Huron.  I am a business owner and farmer living and working with my family in East Wawanosh. Over the years I had different volunteer positions with the Huron Dairy Producers, the Blyth Festival, the Wingham Cancer Care Clinic and Huron Hospice to name a few.

Besides regular council positions I am the chair of the North Huron Economic Development and Recovery Committee, board member for North Huron on the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority, member of the Wingham and District Hospital Physician Recruitment Committee, municipal representative on the North Perth North Huron Family Health Team for the municipalities of Morris-Turnberry, Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, Huron-Kinloss, South Bruce and North Huron, and board member for Community Futures Huron.

BIGGEST ISSUE

As your current East Wawanosh council member I am always striving and committed to making East Wawanosh and North Huron a place where people want to come work and enjoy life.

I am very aware of the unique challenges of our rural communities. My priorities lay with protecting farmland, attracting and retaining businesses and workers,  growing the tax base by supporting a variety of attainable housing, keeping our hospital and arenas open by supporting efficiencies and encouraging neighbouring relations. I also support more child care places, to give residents a chance to enter the workforce and continue attracting young families. The expansion of high-speed fibre optic internet needs to keep going to help families and businesses stay informed and competitive.

I will continue to lead with kindness, perseverance and integrity, to help make North Huron a progressive, sustainable rural community where people feel engaged and respected.

Please consider re-electing Anita van Hittersum.
