SAUGEEN SHORES – With new hands-on science activities like building elastic-powered race cars and exploring sound with homemade handheld harps, the NII Explore Science in the Summer team is hitting the road – visiting day camps, libraries, outdoor markets and other locations around Bruce, Grey and Huron counties.
Sponsored by Bruce Power, the program brings hands-on learning to rural students of all ages, with topics like the science of music, motion, engineering, energy and much more.
During the summer of 2022, the program delivered engaging STEM activities in 21 communities, reaching more than 3,200 children and families.
“Our Science in the Summer team is excited to visit locations throughout the region as we continue to build the conversation with students and families about how science and new technologies impact our lives,” said Phillip Craig, director of NII Explore at the Nuclear Innovation Institute (NII).
He added, “Huge thanks to our sponsor, Bruce Power, for supporting this program – we are grateful to you and all of NII’s founding members for helping drive STEM education in our region.”
