BRUCE COUNTY – With the beginning of Treaties Recognition Week – a week designated to learning more about treaty rights and responsibilities in Ontario – the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre has prepared new related educational resources online for educators and the public.
Included in these resources are recorded presentations from the museum’s Nov. 3 event with Trish Meekins, a knowledge keeper for the Saugeen Ojibway Nation.
The presentations were attended by nearly 200 students from G.C. Huston Public School and focused on the importance of treaties in Canada, specifically the treaty history that relates to the lands within what is now Bruce County.
Recordings of the presentations will be added to the museum’s online education centre, in addition to a new Saugeen Ojibway Nation Territory poster and map – available now – provided by the environmental office of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation and the BCM&CC.
Other learning resources include downloadable activities and videos designed to deepen children’s understanding of treaties.
These new resources can be accessed by visiting brucemuseum.ca/education-centre.
