Mildmay Moose headed to Canadian juvenile championship in Saskatoon

MILDMAY – A team of local broomballers will represent Ontario at the upcoming Juvenile National Broomball Championship.

The 2023 Canadian under-20 broomball championship is scheduled for March 29 to April 1, and will feature the Mildmay Moose as the Ontario 2 entry after qualifying at an event in Trenton this past year.

The Moose have been busy preparing for the event, recently winning the B-side at a tournament in Seaforth.

The team is heavy in local talent, with most of the players residing in South Bruce, Grey County and the Town of Minto. The team has picked up three Ottawa-area players to bolster their roster for the nationals.

The team consists of Lukas Watke, Ethan Garland, Devyn Schumacher, Gavin Dosman, Iryn Koebel, Nolan Taylor, Brady Rich, Tanner Grubb, Nicholas Leroux, Curtis Lacey, Griffin Lantz, Preston Rhody, Quintin McGill, Brody Villeneuve, Ashton Cobean, Isaac Koebel, Layne Grubb, Justin McNairn, Isaiah Koebel, and coaches Shannon Rhody, Jacob Koebel and Melinda Koebel.

The Juvenile National Broomball Championship will be livestreamed. Information about the event can be found online at 2023juvenilebroomballnationals.weebly.com.

“If you see any of the players out in our community, please congratulate them on their huge success,” stated team officials in an email to the Herald-Times.

“This is a great opportunity for this team. They are very proud to have accomplished this and to represent Ontario.”

The team is currently seeking sponsors to assist with the costs of travelling to the Canadian championship. To find out more about the team, speak to one of the team members or email mildmayjuniorbroomball@gmail.com.
