MILDMAY-CARRICK – “Better Together!”
That’s the buzz around Mildmay-Carrick as the community is now less than 50 sleeps away from hosting its 2023 homecoming.
Plans have been essentially finalized for the reunion, which will be held on the Civic Holiday Weekend (Aug. 3-7). The committee has worked very hard to provide a wide variety of events for the whole family.
The celebration begins with the pageant on Thursday night, Aug. 3, and continues throughout the weekend to the closing dance and fireworks on Monday night, Aug. 7.
The Tent, featuring live entertainment each afternoon, and The Lounge, which is geared towards the young at heart, are places for acquaintances to be renewed each day. For the younger crowd, there is The Zone.
Saturday features the homecoming parade and antique tractor show. Sunday’s events include a classic car, truck and bike show, as well as a beard-growing competition. Monday’s events include lawn games and bed races.
This is just a sample of the events planned for each day.
For the kids and teens, there are bouncy castles and rock climbing/axe throwing, children’s entertainers, a children’s parade, a volleyball tournament and activities just too numerous to mention.
There will be Pet Paradise Dog Shows on Sunday, and a scavenger hunt around town all weekend for the whole family to enjoy.
Delicious food is also an important part of the festivities.
Breakfasts will be served on Saturday, Sunday and Monday mornings, and barbecues held each night beginning with beef on Friday, chicken on Saturday, smoked pork chops on Sunday, and steak on Monday. There are also children’s meals available, and there will be food trucks on site.
While the kids and teens are rockin’ at the glow video dance on Friday night, the older “age of majority” crowd can get their dancin’ shoes on to enjoy the sounds of The Practically Hip. The dancing will continue every night to Neon Nostalgic on Saturday, Little Rock on Sunday and Lulu’s Roadhouse Band on Monday.
Tickets for the dances, barbecues and breakfasts, as well as weekend packages, are available online at mildmaycarrickhomecoming.ca. You can also shop for souvenirs on the website, or at the souvenir store located at 94 Elora St. (Schuett’s Furniture Warehouse), which is open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. If these hours don’t suit, you can email the committee to arrange an appointment or parcel pickup time.
Registration for the various events taking place over the weekend is also available on the website.
From meeting old classmates at the school reunions, to the ecumenical church service and horseshoe tournament, there will be lots to see and do for the young and old.
The entire schedule of events will soon be released online and in an official program.
