WINGHAM – In policing, every traffic stop has the potential to turn into something more than meets the eye, as was the case with a traffic stop conducted in Wingham earlier this month.
On Sunday, Oct. 2 at approximately 7:43 p.m. a Huron County OPP officer initiated a traffic stop of a car on Victoria Street in Wingham.
“A driver’s licence query was conducted on the driver and it revealed the driver held a suspended driver’s licence. Upon learning this information, the investigating officer arrested the driver and searched the vehicle,” states a media release from police.
“Upon searching the vehicle officers located drug paraphernalia, trafficking materials, suspected anabolic steroids and currency. A further search revealed the passenger to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.”
The driver, 41-year-old Dana Wheeler from Durham, and passenger Joseph Bevan, 36 years of age from Mildmay, were both charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purposes of trafficking – methamphetamine, and possession of a Schedule IV substance for the purposes of trafficking.
Both have since been released from custody with court dates scheduled for Nov. 21 in Goderich.
