WINGHAM – The community responded with amazing generosity to a goal set out by one local company’s challenge for ‘Giving Tuesday’ on Nov. 29.
McDonagh Insurance Brokers offered to match donations to the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation, up to $10,000, made on Nov. 29 in honour of long-time owner Wayne McDonagh. McDonagh passed away on Oct. 31 at the age of 60 following a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer.
McDonagh can best be described as a builder. He served on many community committees, including the Lucknow Kinsmen, minor sports organizations, and the board of directors of the Wingham and District Hospital.
The community responded overwhelmingly with generosity, surpassing the $10,000 by raising over $56,000 for upgraded lab equipment at the Wingham and District Hospital, specifically blood and urine analyzers.
Current McDonagh Insurance Brokers owners Breanne Chapman, Robin Lippold and Conor McDonagh enthusiastically supported the ‘Giving Tuesday’ event as a way to carry on McDonagh’s strongly held belief in giving back to the community.
Lippold and Chapman, two of McDonagh’s four daughters, said in a press release they were pleased to see such an outpouring of support for the hospital.
“For the past two years, local healthcare allowed out father to be able to spend more time doing what he loved every day, and allowed us to spend more time with him,” said Lippold.
Hospital officials state they are “truly humbled and awed” by the incredible support from the community, citing the success of this event as another example of how much the community values quality local healthcare.
“We can’t thank the McDonagh family and the whole team as McDonagh Insurance enough for helping us kick off the giving season in such a spectacular way,” said Nicole Duquette, executive director of the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation.
“It’s truly an honour to be part of carrying on Wayne’s legacy in this way.”
