LISTOWEL – An impaired driver was arrested in North Perth in Dec. 7, and was later charged with assaulting a police officer.
On Dec. 7 just after 5 p.m. the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in Listowel. Officers located the vehicle on Maitland Avenue North and determined the driver was impaired. They were arrested and transported to a local operations centre for further testing, where they assaulted a police officer.
No serious injuries were reported as a result of the assault.
Kevin Hamilton, 48, of North Perth, has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs, failure or refusal to comply with demand, and assault a peace officer.
A 90-day administrative driver’s license suspension and 30-day vehicle impoundment were initiated as per statute. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford at a later date to answer to the charges.
