Local kicker named CJFL Special Teams Player of the Year

HANOVER – The best special teams player in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) has plenty of local ties.

On Friday, Nov. 11, the CJFL announced its Outstanding Player Award winners for the 2022 season, and Hanover’s AJ Williamson was among them.

Williamson, the son of Barbara Guay of Hanover and grandson of Bill and Joan Borho of Formosa, was named the Special Teams Player of the Year.

Williams is a kicker/punter with the London Beefeaters, and recorded a league-high 19 field goals this season, including a successful 49-yard attempt. He was also 21-for-22 on single-point convert attempts. He also led the league in kick-off average (56.6 yards), punts (49) and scoring (90 points).

Williamson was also named to the Ontario Conference All-Star Team and the First Team All-Canadian squad.
