Lobb re-elected in Huron-Bruce

LUCKNOW – The 2025 federal election race in the riding of Huron-Bruce has come to an end, with Incumbent Conservative candidate Ben Lobb being re-elected as Member of Parliament (MP).

Lobb was first elected to the House of Commons in 2008. He was re-elected again in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2021.

Cheers echoed out just before 11 p.m. at the Lucknow Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion when some of the national media began reporting that Lobb had won the Huron-Bruce riding.

Thank you, everybody, for doing it,” Lobb told the crowd at his gathering Monday night. “We door-knocked pretty much every day.”

After thanking his family, he added, “During the first two weeks of the campaign, really all we heard … was Mark Carney, Donald Trump, Mark Carney, Donald Trump. Then, in the third week, we were door knocking and somebody said to me, ‘Hey Ben, don’t you think it’s time for a change in Ottawa?’ and I said, Yeah, I do… after that, our door knocking numbers just got better and better and better.

“At those doors, it really hammered home the point that there are a lot of people across the country that are hurting financially.”

Lobb said that, while door knocking, he ran into life-long Liberal supporters with their adult children living at home, and life-long NDP supporters who were now dealing with financial hardship. They told Lobb they were voting for him “and it’s all got to do with the cost of living”, Lobb said during an interview after the announcement.

When asked if he was surprised with the numbers, Lobb said the past few months have definitely resulted in some interesting changes.

“If this election would have been in October, we probably would have won by 40 or 50 per cent, and we know that was largely because people dislike Justin Trudeau.”

He went on to say that US President Donald Trump’s presence had a polarizing impact on the election and that led to the close results being seen Monday night.

When asked about the difference between the official results and the polls leading up to the election, Lobb said it’s difficult to poll the country effectively.

“I think it’s very … easy to poll, say, for example seniors with landlines that answer the phone,” he said. “It’s very difficult to poll somebody that’s 30 years old that doesn’t have  a landline, that doesn’t answer their cell phone and wouldn’t text message back and wouldn’t do an online survey.”
