Listowel resident Bob Tanner recalls an encounter with Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during a trip to Nassau, Bahamas in 1966. “When I arrived at the airport, they gave me a sticker saying ‘Royal Visit ‘66’ – I thought nothing of it,” said Tanner. Unbeknownst to him, the Queen and Prince Philip were on the tropical island. Tanner was able to snap this photo of the royals being chauffeured in her personal Rolls Royce. “The Royal Yacht Britannia was in the harbour, which transported the Queen and her entourage… and her Rolls Royce,” said Tanner. Tanner visited the Rolls Royce dealership on the island, which as a young General Motors mechanic in Listowel, was quite an experience as well. Tanner still has the Rolls Royce brochure from that visit. (Photo courtesy of Bob Tanner)
