Listowel Memorial Hospital Auxiliary steps up 2022 fundraising efforts

LISTOWEL – As Volunteer Month is celebrated with renewed hope, the Listowel Memorial Hospital Auxiliary joins in honouring its dedicated volunteers.

After members received safety, COVID protocol and privacy training in early March, they were ready to work towards funds for the purchase of a fetal heart monitor – their pledge for 2022 to the hospital – at a total of $11,000.

After being severely curtailed by the pandemic and a flood to its fundraising activities, the Auxiliary was able to re-open its gift shop located near LMH’s main entrance in March and sales have been ample. Clothing, giftware, seasonal and holiday goodies, and Rheo Thompson mint smoothies are among the hot sellers. The shop is open, on a volunteer availability basis, Monday- Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The public is welcome to attend the gift shop – screening and masks are mandatory.

In-house bake sales have been approved and the Easter Bake Sale was enjoyed by staff and visitors alike.

LMHA’s annual hanging basket sale at Listowel Greenhouses on Highway 23 just south of Listowel is once again on the calendar for Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7, when owner Frank Sluys will provide financial support with the sale of every hanging basket. There will be a bake sale as well.

Other fundraising in the planning stages is an online auction and gift basket sales. The information on all the activities can be found on its Facebook page “Listowel Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.” And, as always, new members are welcome; leave a message on the Facebook page or at the LMH gift shop for information or to be contacted.
