LISTOWEL – The Listowel Junior Cyclones haven’t played a meaningful game at the Steve Kerr Memorial Complex since March 4, 2020 due to the pandemic, but all that is set to change next month.
The Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League (GOJHL) released its 2021-22 regular season schedule on Monday. The Cyclones will open their upcoming Junior B campaign on the road in Stratford when they take on the Warriors at Allman Arena on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
Listowel will host the Caledon Bombers in its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 26 at the Kerr Complex. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
According to sources, fans will be permitted to attend games in person, although it is yet unknown in what percentage capacity area arenas, including Listowel, may be filled at the GOJHL playing level.
Caledon is one of three Midwestern Conference clubs to undergo a change of residency for the upcoming campaign, after moving from Brampton in the off-season. Also new to the GOJHL’s Midwest this year is the Ayr Centennials, a long-time Junior C hub that purchased the now defunct Kitchener Dutchmen organization in April 2020.
Following that move, the Waterloo Siskins assumed the sole Junior B locality for the Kitchener-Waterloo area, becoming the Kitchener-Waterloo Siskins.
The Cyclones continue training camp through the end of August before opening up their 2021 pre-season on the road against the Strathroy Rockets on Sept. 4 in the first of a home-and-home set. Listowel completes the series against Strathroy at the Kerr Complex on Friday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
The Cyclones wrap up exhibition play in a three-game series with the Elmira Sugar Kings; the final game of that set goes on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Listowel.
