Victoria Day should be replaced with Elizabeth Day

To the editor,

The late Queen Victoria passed away in 1901. Her claim to fame was that she was the longest reigning monarch in British history. That, I am told, is why we celebrate May 24 as Victoria Day – to commemorate Queen Victoria’s birthday.

The modern queen, the late Queen Elizabeth II, has broken her record. She did it both from a longevity standpoint, and also in number of years on the throne.

My question is, are we going to cancel out Victoria Day and celebrate Elizabeth Day? To me, that would make sense.

That day would fall on or about April 21.
