Dear Editor.
The recent news regarding the realignment of hospital beds to Brockton and Kincardine from Durham is not only startling it is shameful.
It comes at no surprise that the decisions of the Brockton Council and their seemingly endless purge of farmland and expansion of residential development is a main cause of the closure of beds in Durham.
Why one says? In a letter to the editor several months ago it was observed that the Brockton council has been ignoring the inevitable increase in need for medical services and the impact on citizens of Brockton, resulting from the unwanted surge of high cost residential properties.
Now, Brockton will be seen as hoarding scarce resources to the detriment of the residents of Durham. Shameful.
The decisions of Brockton council breaks the bond of decades long co-operation with the four hospital coalition, likely never to be restored. Shameful.
The infighting that is likely to result could be more properly focussed on Premier Doug Ford, his front bench and caucus. Let’s not forget the Minister of Health and her ongoing proclamations that “all is well in her portfolio.” Shameful.
One of the early signs resulting from abandoning our neighbours is that they are left to fend for themselves. (See reports of Durham citizens rallying to rescind) This weakens the coalition immensely.
This step adds to the ever-growing list of grievances associated with the seeming disregard that Brockton council has for residents. During a recent chinwag session, it became clear that more and more residents are displeased that the five-storey apartment monolith in the industrial park, can now be seen from everywhere and anywhere in Walkerton. Shame.
Seems that residents have been ghosted by their municipal leaders.
