To the editor,
Last week, the current provincial government finally crossed the line by announcing an additional nuclear plant in Bruce County.
This, for me, confirms their intention to use our out-of-sight rural and pristine vacation wonderland as a septic tank for all things radioactive.
One of the first moves taken by the current premier, when elected in 2018, was to fire a senior staff person who had set in place a system that would meet the electricity needs of all Canadians living in Ontario for decades to come. The reason given for this move by the premier was that the $500,000 paid to this expert could not be tolerated. Instead, some five years later, he now proposes using in excess of $13 billion to build a nuclear facility reported to service some 40,000 customers.
In combination with their admission that the “smart” mayors possess the skills that are apparently not in the provincial cabinet to do the hard work, suggests that it is time for the current government to take the steps necessary to cease and desist.
Then we can re-establish initiatives for clean energy, amongst other things.
