Premier should be proud of the Greenbelt

To the editor,

Premier Doug Ford made an election promise not to touch the Greenbelt. Are promises made to his friends to allow them to build on Greenbelt land more important?

The Ontario Greenbelt is supposed to be permanently protected – an area of forests, farmlands, wetlands, watersheds and endangered species, such as the barn swallow.

It is one of the largest greenbelts in the world at two million acres. He should be proud of this and protect this area, not destroy it.

It provides us with clean water, fresh air and local food. The Greenbelt was established to protect agricultural land and prevent urban sprawl and industrial pollution. It is a crucial part of Ontario’s economy and heritage.

A study has found Highway 413 would only save drivers 30-60 seconds, but add tonnes of pollution and cause immeasurable harm to the Greenbelt.

Contact your MPP and say no to Highway 413.
