Dear Editor:
Donald Trump. Orange man very bad right ? Why – because the tv told us he was. Because our government told us he is.
Undoubtably, Trump is not a very good person and his tactics to governing are very questionable. With his objective to drive business/manufacturing back into the USA, of course we are in the cross hairs just like many other countries.
Luckily for us, we have the solution. Our fearless leader of Brookfield, I mean prime minister has told us he’s the man to get the job done. The only person capable of dealing with Trump and negotiating a good for Canada deal by July ( 2025).
Alas here we are without any meaningful deals. But fret not! Our jet setting PM has been travelling the globe trying to secure deals elsewhere (I assume with some sort of fancy carbon capture jet, because the environment, right?). Of course, trying to expand/ diversify trade partners is not a bad thing at all, and I wish him much success there, but we cannot replace even remotely the scale of trade with the USA.
It would be nice as a country embarrassingly rich with resources – forestry, oil , minerals , water etc that we could rely more so on ourselves by promoting/building industry right here at home. However, we let our ideological virtue signaling get in the way of ourselves – look at us and our soggy paper straws helping save the world and don’t forget about all our taxes doing their part too! As our internal problems pile up, healthcare, housing shortages, massive food inflations that have nothing to do with Mr. Trump, we need to look internally for fixes as well as finally getting that deal done.
With another announcement from our PM of another $2 billion to Ukraine that Chrystia Freeland sure works fast!) that brings our total commitments since 2022 to approximately $25 billion. I’m not suggesting an end to foreign aid, but a little fiscal government responsibility at home would go a long way here. Some of that money would sure look good for some new/updated hospitals and housing projects among other things right here at home. To finish with a positive note, I’ll end with this. Be good, do good. God bless. Go Bills!
