To the editor,
Recently, NORAD jets were dispatched to intercept and ultimately shoot down a balloon thought to be Soviet. The news reported Bruce Power initiated a protocol out of caution. As well, an American fighter jet recently intercepted a Soviet fighter jet armed with missiles in international air space above North America. And in the news on Saturday, April 22, the Soviet Union declared Finland a nuclear target.
So what? Well, it seems that we here in Bruce County have been and remain eerily enchanted with making our county into a larger target should, heaven forbid, an itchy trigger finger engage their long-range arsenal.
This reader asks that more attention be paid into providing a walking bridge during the scheduled replacement of the bridge through Walkerton instead of globetrotting and drawing unnecessary attention to an already large and seemingly growing target.
