To the editor,
Mayor Chris Peabody, in a recent edition of the Herald-Times (“Huron-Bruce federal election boundary to remain unchanged,” Feb. 23), noted that speaking out does matter.
This observation may be late but recently it was reported that former United States President Jimmy Carter left hospital to receive hospice care at his home.
If this approach has already been considered by our local hospice committee and been dismissed, so be it. If not, it may be worth a look.
This likely means that the resources would move to the home of the patient rather than the patient moving from their home to the hospice; that the funds associated with maintaining another facility would be deployed to additional resources; that there are some real limits on how the volunteer component needed annually by the hospice could draw away from the success of the many current and long-standing volunteer activities in our community; this last point is particularly worrisome as the culture of Brockton could shift and that paid positions become the norm.
