Local fundraiser urges all to aim to make the world a better place in 2026

Dear Editor:

To me, 2025 was a fantastic year, at age 78 I made many new friends, some of which are a few Old Order Amish Families in Huron County (only God can arrange such friendships I truly believe)!

My goal for 2026 was raise money for the Grey/Bruce and Huron/Perth Alzheimer’s Societies so on Monday Jan. 5 I started collecting pledges, receiving $930 which I turned over immediately – so no one thinks I have money in my house (just not safe in today’s society).  On Jan. 7, two days later, I went out collecting in Grey/Bruce again and got pledges totaling another $930 which has me speechless to say the least. One day later Thurs. Jan. 8 I moved over to Huron/Perth Counties and collected another $735.00 – caring people never disappoint when it comes to collecting for Alzheimer’s, as a matter-of-fact Canadians must keep up their reputation as genuinely generous when charity is concerned.

By the way, I will not keep up this hectic pace, there are many crokinole events coming up in Teeswater, St. Jacobs and a large, sanctioned tournament in Elmira (a must enter event) on Jan 17. I also have grandchildren playing broomball and hockey, (grandparents make the best fans) I think!  You must be proud just seeing them participating, winning is only an option.

As we all move forward in 2026 why not ask yourself when you wake up in the morning “what can I do to make this a better place for mankind today?”

Sincerely,

Peter Carter,

Teeswater
