To the editor,
The corn crop for this year is looking very successful for our continued support through the Jubilee Acres growing project at Greenock.
In spite of this very positive growth, we continue to receive requests for disastrous hunger situations around the world.
I cannot help but think of the pain for a farm family to watch a perfectly good crop of grain or vegetables, to be washed away by floods as is happening to over half the farm land in Pakistan.
Neither could I imagine the fear of harvesting in Ukraine when I hear of farmers there being killed by land mines – human life, combine equipment and crop wasted. These pains and fears should not be present when trying to feed our families.
To help alleviate the challenges of some of these disaster situations, join us at the Walkerton Knights of Columbus Hall on Sunday, Sept. 25. Doors open at 2 p.m. for the price of $20. All proceeds from this event will help Canadian Foodgrains Bank to End Hunger in their various relief projects.
The afternoon includes live music by Take 1+1, dancing, draws, a cash bar, and door prizes. The hot roast beef and ham buffet will be served at 5 p.m. Donations payable to Jubilee Acres will receive tax receipts and proceeds are matched four-to-one by our government to help end hunger. Tickets are available at Brown’s Guardian Pharmacy, Holst Office Supply in Walkerton and Len Kraemer at 519-881-3456.
Thanks for your continued support as we enter our 25th year at Jubilee Acres!
