To the editor,
I consider myself to be in the silent majority, and wanted to reach out to someone about feelings I am hearing from many people, in all walks of life in Canada.
I just had some friends from all over Ontario visit Walkerton last weekend. As you are well aware, there is a protest group hovering around Walkerton every weekend and without getting into how I feel about the protest, it is how it makes people feel towards our Canadian flag that has been overlooked by the media in general.
My family has a very long history in Canada, and when I see our flag it has always made me feel a sense of pride, a sense of unity, as sense of love for one another. This recent draping and flying our Canadian flag on protest vehicles has soured my feelings about our flag and what it stands for.
My friends had arrived to see my flag pole with its Canadian flag and jokingly asked if I was part of the protest. When I pass a home, or anywhere the flag is shown I find myself thinking they are somehow involved in the message, which is what disturbs me the most.
It will be a long time before those patriotic feelings come back once the protestors finally get bored or tired of the honking and waving of our most cherished flag, my only hope is we can get that feeling back again.
Signed,
Concerned Canadian
