Dear Editor:
I wish to publicly thank the Listowel 150th Anniversary Committee for affording me the honour of officially opening the anniversary celebrations on the morning of Aug. 2 at the Clock Tower. It was an occasion I will never forget.
My only regret is that due to previous commitments – namely a family wedding at High Park, Toronto at 2:30 p.m. that same day – I was unable to stay and take in all the anniversary had to offer. I have just received the Banner’s souvenir edition (I get my paper two to three weeks late). Congratulations on this special publication. I am looking forward to your coverage of anniversary events.
During the official opening, highlights for me was getting to meet special guest Corey Conners and to renew acquaintance with many people I well remember from my years in Listowel. It was kind of people to take the time to come and say “Hello” before I had to leave.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the spectacular fly-past of the vintage aircraft during the opening. As the Public Relations Officer of the Listowel Lancaster Support Club some years ago, I am familiar with the work it takes to arrange such a fly-past. The pilots of the two aircraft on the morning of Aug. 2 in Listowel could not have done a finer piece of flying. It was the best fly-past I have witnessed.
I have been informed that all events were well attended. The members of the Anniversary Committee are to be commended for their many hours of hard work. And The Banner is to be commended for its special anniversary coverage throughout the year.
