Dear Editor,
Thank you to everyone who came out to the Supper for Syrians on Thursday, November 26 at Centre Wellington District High School. It was amazing to see the incredible cross-section of community support and the interest in wanting to help our fellow Syrian brothers and sisters who are in crisis.
The fundraising dinner event was made possible by so many different people. Thank you Chris Jess, Resa Lent, and the students of CWDHS Food School for the most scrumptious meal! Thank you ReRoot Organic Farm, Best Baa, and Sure Choice Produce for your food donations. Thank you students of CWDHS, including the Free the Children Club. Thank you to others, including teachers, who baked desserts. Thank you local merchants and artists for your generous donations to the raffle table and silent auction. Thank you Quentin W. and Tyler D. for your music during our dinner. All of you made Supper for Syrians a wonderful success!
We had the privilege of hearing CWDHS grad, Nishin Nathwani, speak. A recent Harvard graduate, he has done international work with UNHCR (The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees)and is soon heading to Lebanon to work with Syrian refugees. Thank you Nishin for sharing your knowledge and experience with us!
Together we raised over $5 000 for The Canadian Red Cross, which will be matched by our Canadian government for a total over $ 11 000! These funds will be used to help The Red Cross in their important work in the Syrian Refugee Camps.
Project Welcome is now going to focus its time and energies on working with other local groups to welcome refugees into our community. We are excited about the impact this will have on refugee families and our community. Stay tuned for more details soon!
Thank you,
