Letter to the Editor RE: Council votes 4-3 to allow demolition of log cabin- May 1, 2015
Dear Editor:
I have two comments on the ongoing debate between Wellington Centre councillors and the so-called heritage activists attempting to save a dilapitated log house.
One: The activists insistence that “here in Ontarion public good trumps individual property”.Who knew? This idea of the collective over the individual smacks of the UN Agenda 21, if not flat out communism!
Secondly,if Fergus WAS founded by First Nations people, one can be sure it would not have been named Fergus! Furthermore, the amazing summer Scottish Festival would have a very different theme.
If the heritage activists are so passionate about preserving the cabin, they should do a fundraiser, buy, disassemble, restore and relocate the building. They may discover that there is far less interest in saving this “historic” cabin when folks are asked for cold hard cash.It is unreasonable to expect the current owners to do that for them then hand over the site to the state.
