HURON-BRUCE – New Democrats in Huron—Bruce have selected former nurse, educator and school administrator Laurie Hazzard to be their candidate in the 2022 provincial election.
In a press release, the NDP says Hazzard’s “experience in both the health care and education fields provide her with a unique insight into the needs of Ontario families, particularly in rural Ontario.”
The Bayfield resident created the first online public secondary school in Ontario, helped develop an eLearning strategy for the province, and spent 14 years developing digital learning tools for Ontario public schools.
She is also an avid volunteer in the Bayfield community, working with Home4Good Shopping Buddies program, the Blue Bayfield environmental group, the Bayfield Ukulele Society, and other great local organizations.
John Vanthof, deputy leader of the Ontario NDP, says the party is excited to have Hazzard on board as their candidate in Huron-Bruce.
“Laurie has years of experience working in healthcare and education – these are the services families rely on across Huron and Bruce counties,” said Vanthof. “Instead of Doug Ford’s big cuts and bad decisions, imagine having someone like Laurie who sticks up for families. We need more people like her at Queen’s Park. We’re excited to have her on board, and we know she can deliver results for the families of Huron-Bruce.”
Hazzard says she is thrilled to be representing the riding in the upcoming provincial election.
“I am thrilled to be running to represent my community and fight for a better Ontario. Life is getting harder for families here in Huron and Bruce counties, housing costs are rising, so are the costs of everyday items like groceries and gas,” said Hazzard. “We need to make sure families are able to build their best lives here. I know with Andrea Horwath and the Ontario NDP team, we can make life better by investing in the things that make life easier for families in Huron—Bruce.”
