GREY-BRUCE – The CT scanner project at the Kincardine hospital continues to advance, with a targeted goal of having the scanner operational in 2022.
Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2021 on the 2,000 square foot addition to be located directly south of the main entrance, adjacent to the east side the existing hospital building. The addition will include a private CT suite, technologist area, patient prep room, wait space, change room, washroom and stretcher holding area. The purchase order for the Siemens Edge Plus CT scanner was issued on April 29, 2021, and the equipment is expected to arrive on site in early 2022.
“The project is moving along well,” said Michael Barrett, CEO of South Bruce Grey Health Centre. “Getting the scanner in place and operational as quickly as possible is our goal, to meet the health care needs of the Kincardine community. The sooner we get the CT installed, the sooner that patients will no longer have to travel to another community to access CT services.”
The Ministry of Health has approved stages one and two of the five-stage capital project submission for the CT suite addition, and has accelerated the typical review process and advanced the project to a combined stage three and four submission, which includes a sketch plan report and working drawings and specifications. The stage three and four submission has now been sent to the ministry for review and approval. The final stage of the capital project submission is releasing the project tender and awarding the construction contract.
Funding for this project is being provided by the Kincardine and Community Health Care Foundation, which includes a $1 million contribution from Bruce Power and the Government of Ontario.

Earlier this year, the hospital’s main entrance was reconstructed to accommodate the new addition for the CT scanner suite, modifying the entrance canopy with structural walls and columns. This project began in January 2021 and was completed on time and on budget in May 2021. The new main entrance will remain open to patients and visitors for the duration of the construction on the CT scanner addition.
