HURON COUNTY – Kent Readman has been appointed fire chief for North Huron and Huron East, effective Dec. 6.
Readman’s appointment was announced in a joint press release from the two communities on Nov. 9.
The release states Readman will continue to oversee fire departments in North Huron and Huron East, and that retiring Fire Chief Marty Bedard will be working closely with Readman “to ensure a smooth transition of the department.”
Readman has 20 years of experience in the volunteer fire service. He was a member of the Fire Department of North Huron until 2015, when he left to further his career within the fire service. His LinkedIn profile states he is currently the Fire Chief at the City of Kenora, a role he has held since June 2021. He has also been fire chief in the City of Dryden, Marathon Emergency Services and Barriere, British Columbia.
Readman also serves as a director on the Ontario Association of Fire Chief’s board of directors.
“The Township of North Huron is excited to welcome Mr. Readman back to the Fire Department of North Huron as Fire Chief. Mr. Readman’s interest in fire services began at a very early age and it is an honour to have him step into this leadership role,” said Reeve Bernie Bailey. “North Huron values and appreciates the shared service agreement with the Municipality of Huron East and we look forward to this continued shared services arrangement.”
Bernie MacLellan, Mayor of Huron East, echoed Bailey’s statement.
“The Municipality of Huron East is fortunate and values the qualifications, skills and experience Mr. Readman brings to the position. We look forward to working with Mr. Readman and wish to thank Fire Chief Bedard for his 29 years of service to the Municipality of Huron East,” he said.
