Impaired charge laid near Wingham

MORRIS-TURNBERRY – A resident of Listowel is facing an over 80 charge along with other driving-related charges following a traffic stop that took place outside of Wingham in January.

On Friday, Jan. 21 at approximately 3:57 p.m., a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police officer was patrolling on Amberley Road just west of Wingham when a car was observed speeding eastbound in the 70 km/h zone.

The suspect vehicle proceeded to turn off onto Helena Street and attempted to evade the officer, however the driver put his vehicle into a snow bank on Augusta Street. The officer was able to locate the suspect vehicle and upon speaking with the driver, the officer learned the driver had a suspended licence. Further, the investigating officer detected the driver had been drinking alcohol.

As a result of this, a roadside-screening test was conducted and the driver registered a fail. The driver was subsequently placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for further testing. The accused later provided two samples of breath to the qualified intoxilizer technician and both tests were found to be above the legal limit.

Shane Bauer, 41, from Listowel has been charged with operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus, drive while under suspension, operate a motor vehicle without insurance, and careless driving.

The accused was later released from custody with a court appearance scheduled for Feb. 28, 2022 at the Ontario Court of Justice – Goderich.
