LISTOWEL – The Huron Perth District Women’s Institute hosted a Ladies Day Out on Nov. 9 at the Listowel Agricultural Hall, with 80 ladies in attendance.
The theme for the day was, “Old Can Be New Again.”
District President Barbara Grube welcomed everyone and hoped they enjoyed a day full of fun, food and fellowship.
A soup and sandwich lunch was provided by the Listowel Agricultural Society.
The Mayfair Ukulele Band from the Lucknow area provided entertainment with their Ukulele music. They performed several numbers that the audience were familiar with and were able to join in the singing. They had recently travelled to New Brunswick for a “Try a Little Kindness,” tour where they performed for several nursing homes. The band is currently made up of 16 members, ranging in age from 55-90.
Helen Dowd from Operation Organize Inc. spoke on the services that are provided to help seniors live independently in their own surroundings. They can be booked for one visit or arranged for longer times. Their goal is to help seniors stay in their own home for as long as possible. The team offers non-medical solutions for seniors in Stratford and Perth County.
Lynda Alexander demonstrated how to repurpose your older pieces of glassware. She uses plates, cups or any glassware and attaches them together using Goop glue. A hockey puck is glued on the back with a steel rod that is then able to be put in the ground in flower beds for display.
Throughout the afternoon several lucky ladies were able to take home a quilted centrepiece made by the Majestic WI from Brussels.
