If some of the planes flying above Saugeen Municipal Airport on Saturday, June 10 sounded a bit different, it was because they were. The Harvard aircraft has a unique throaty roar, and there were two of the historic war planes based in Tillsonburg, at SMA, where they took fortunate individuals for a flight. The Canadian Harvard Aircraft Association’s mission is to preserve, restore and demonstrate the Harvard and other training aircraft associated with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and the Royal Canadian Air Force. The Harvard is probably the best-known aircraft of the Second World War. It’s estimated 500 of them are still flying. The Harvards from Tillsonburg come to SMA once a year. (Pauline Kerr photo)
