Hanover police arrest suspects in stolen vehicle

HANOVER – On Jan. 26, at 5:50 a.m., Hanover police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of an apartment complex on 11th Avenue.

When police arrived, the suspects attempted to leave in the vehicle, which was blocked by the officers.

Police say the two men were driving a stolen 2018 Audi, from the Collingwood area. The vehicle had the wrong plates on it – they belonged to a 1998 Audi.

The men were arrested without incident.

Police say a search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a .22 calibre semi-automatic rifle, loose ammunition, ammunition magazines, a gun belt with holster, break-in tools, machete, axe, a quantity of cell phones and other items.

Both men were held in custody pending a bail hearing.

A 36-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, firearms offences, possession of break-in instruments and operating a vehicle while prohibited.

The other man, a 26-year-old Gravenhurst resident, is charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000, firearms offences, possession of break-in instruments, and possession of a firearm and ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
