WINGHAM – The community responded with amazing generosity to a goal set out by one local company’s challenge for ‘Giving Tuesday’ on Nov. 28.
After a successful ‘Giving Tuesday’ fundraiser in 2022, the Wingham & District Hospital Foundation partnered with Leslie Motors for the 2023 event.
Leslie Motors offered to match donations, up to $10,000, made to the hospital on ‘Giving Tuesday.’ When the numbers were crunched after the two-day event – inclement weather postponed the in-person event on Nov. 28, and was rescheduled for Nov. 29 – a total of $54,800 was raised. Donations could be made in person or online.
The funds will be used towards the purchase of a chemistry analyzer for the Wingham and District Hospital’s lab.
“We were happy to offer the matching gift because the hospital means a lot to our family, our employees and customers,” said Cole Leslie, general manager at Leslie Motors. “I can hardly believe how much money was raised. We’re so glad to be part of this hugely successful event with the hospital foundation.”
The Foundation was as equally excited.
“We are grateful to each and every person who supported the Giving Tuesday event. The outpouring of generosity makes a real difference for our hospital, staff and patients. Leslie Motors is a wonderful community-focused family business and we are fortunate to count them as one of our supporters,” said Nicole Duquette-Jutzi, executive director of the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation.
Duquette added that the purchase of a chemistry analyzer for the lab will help get timely, accurate test results to local patients.
“Thank you to everyone who participated in ‘Giving Tuesday’ and made it such a success.”
Leslie Motors Ford picked up the ‘Giving Tuesday’ Big Match baton from McDonagh Insurance Brokers, who started the fundraiser with the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation in 2022. The event has raised more than $110,000 for the hospital in two years.
‘Giving Tuesday’ 2024
The Wingham and District Hospital Foundation also announced the ‘Giving Tuesday’ Big Match event will return in 2024, with Edgar’s Feed & Seed matching donations.
