Four seeking reeve’s seat on North Huron council

NORTH HURON – Carson Lamb, clerk of North Huron, released the official list of certified candidates on Monday for the upcoming municipal election in October.

Four candidates are running for reeve: Bernie Bailey, Paul Heffer, Ranko Markeljevic, and Trevor Seip.

The East Wawanosh Ward has three candidates competing for two councillor seats: Chris Palmer, Kelly Tiffen, and Anita Van Hittersum.

Six people are vying for the two Wingham Ward councillor seats: Stacey Boyd, Stephen Hill, Amy Schiestel, Lonnie Whitfield, Tanya James Williams, and Mitch Wright.

Blyth Ward councillors Kevin Falconer and Ric McBurney entered the race, but with no contenders, they have both been officially acclaimed.

Official candidates for school board trustee are as follows:

Avon Maitland District School Board – Ray Berg from Gorrie, Patricia Elaine Smith from Belgrave, and Michel Starenky from Wroxeter.

Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board – Jim McDade from Goderich (acclaimed).

South Bruce candidates

The certified list of candidates for South Bruce shows a three-way race for the position of mayor: Robert Buckle, Mark Goetz and Rita Groen.

Running for the two councillor-at-large positions are Sandy Bunker, Doug Kreller, Mike Niesen and Nigel Vandyk.

Running for the two councillor spots in the Teeswater-Culross Ward are Mark Ireland, Mike McDonagh, Gordon Ripley and Michelle Stein.

Acclaimed to the two councillor positions for the Mildmay-Carrick Ward are Audrey Bross and Jeff Goetz.

Beverley Eckensweiler and Richard Zettler are running for school board trustee – Bruce-Grey Catholic District School Board.

Vying for the position of school board trustee – Bluewater District School Board – are David Alan Rogers and Derrick Long.

Howick candidates

Voters in Howick will not have to go to the polls this October, as all positions on that council have been acclaimed.

Doug Harding will once again serve as reeve, as he was the only candidate to file for that position. Current councillor Megan Gibson will move up to the deputy reeve’s chair. The three councillor seats will be occupied by incumbent Doug Hargrave, Marvin Grimes and Rosemary Rognvaldson.

Morris-Turnberry candidates

Jamie Heffer has been acclaimed mayor in Morris-Turnberry, returning for another term.

Six candidates are vying for four council seats. Incumbents Kevin Freiburger, Sharen Zinn and Jamie McCallum are all seeking re-election, and will be challenged by Christopher R. Michie, Jodi Snell and Dale McFarlan.

Jim Nelemans, who has been a councillor for the past 19 years, recently vacated his seat and is not seeking re-election as he is moving to Grand Bend next month.
