FORMOSA – Formosa Lions President Jim Batte welcomed the members to a delicious ham dinner served COVID-buffet style, with only the servers touching the utensils. Secretary Lion Hank Soers and Treasurer Lion John Schill attended to their respective duties.
The Formosa Lions, via the Lions Club International Foundation, made a $250 donation to Ukraine. The club also donated $100 to Huronia Diabetes Camp for Children.
The annual road-side clean-up was held on Saturday, April 9. Thirty bags of garbage were picked up and delivered to the Culross landfill. Thanks to those Lions who assisted Lion Brian Donaldson with the project.
After two years of little or no activity, the Formosa Lions will again be hosting a Mother’s Day Breakfast (May 8) and a Father’s Day Breakfast (June 19).
Lion Carl Zettel reported that Nick Voisin, who is heading up the Recreation Centre project, is moving straight ahead. The fence is down, the light standards are dismantled and the cement pad is gone. The next task is putting in the new floor and then erecting the building around the pad. Thanks to the volunteers who assisted in the tear-down.
2022 Formosa Homecoming (July 28 – Aug. 1) chair Lion Tim Borho reported that all committees are set up, dances and entertainment and dinners are organized, breakfast on Saturday will be looked after by the Belmore Chamber of Commerce committee and breakfast on Sunday will be looked after by the Formosa Lions. The events are being organized but many hands make light the work and volunteers are needed, so please consider volunteering. The Souvenir Store, next to the Post Office, has its souvenir hours posted on their website – www.formosahomecoming.com – and on their Facebook page “Formosa Homecoming 2022.” As well as visiting the store, souvenirs can be purchased online. Trillium Insurance is spearheading a Homecoming Kick-off barbecue on Friday, June 10 at the Formosa Lions Park beginning a 5 p.m. Advance tickets only are available through the website or souvenir store.
The Formosa Lions will be hosting dinner and a “roast” for District Governor Lion Jennifer Batte, from the Formosa Lions Club, on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Formosa Community Centre.
