WINGHAM – Huron Perth Public Health has declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the inpatient unit of the Wingham and District Hospital.
Hospital officials state five patients and have been identified as part of the outbreak. There are no reported staff cases at this time.
The definition of an outbreak at an acute care setting is when two or more patients and/or staff within a specified area (unit/floor/service) with positive results from a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test or rapid molecular test or rapid antigen test within a 10-day period where both cases have reasonable acquired their infection in the acute care facility.
“COVID remains heavily present throughout our municipality and community linkages are the probable source of the patient infections,” states a release from the Listowel Wingham Hospitals Alliance.
“The hospital is working very closely with Huron Perth Public Health and our regional partners regarding admissions, transfers and repatriations in response to this outbreak.”
Emergency department visits, ambulatory care services, operating room procedures, diagnostic imaging and specialist visits continue to occur.
There is currently no inpatient visiting permitted at this time.
Hospital officials ask those who are not feeling well, or have COVID symptoms, not to come to the hospital except for necessary emergency care.
