After hosting what organizers called an extremely successful event, The Mildmay 2023 Homecoming Committee was, at its own request, dissolved during the Feb. 11 South Bruce Council Meeting.

According to a previous release, the AMDSB Centre for Employment and Learning is no longer providing employment services as of Feb. 1.

Council here passed their capital and operating budgets in principle Feb. 4 and 6, an action which was underscored by significant deliberation on where taxpayer money will land in municipal projects and assets during 2025.

Council here approved delaying the opening of both Mildmay Carrick Swim Pool (MCSP) and Teeswater Culross Swim Pool (TCSP) by two weeks until June 16, 2025, as well as the closure of the pools on Sundays for public swims moving forward. 

In response to recent staffing changes within the township’s finance department, Annette Fletcher, Huron County’s deputy treasurer, has been appointed North Huron’s interim director of finance/treasurer.

In January, the unemployment rate for the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula  Economic Region jumped to 5.8 per cent, also the biggest increase (2 percentage points) across Ontario, after sitting at one of the lowest in the province for months.

Council here held a public meeting during the recent regular council agenda on Feb. 4, outlining the third draft of Howick’s 2025 municipal budget.

An individual was charged with multiple criminal offences following a traffic complaint involving a snowmobile on Feb. 2.
