The Lucknow Lancers have picked up their second win of the Ontario Elite Hockey League season, following a 4-1 victory over the Erin Outlaws at home on Dec. 3.

The Wingham Ironmen served as hosts of the Regional Silver Stick U11 ‘B’ and ‘C’ tournaments last week at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex. Wingham went 3-1 overall in the C Division, making it to the tournament semifinals before falling 5-1 to runnerup Mount Forest on Sunday.

The Wingham Ironmen made the most of the lone game on its weekend docket, skating to a 6-3 win over the Flyers in Goderich on Saturday night.

The Saugeen Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) wrapped up its education program for the final time, bidding farewell to Nancy Griffin, program co-ordinator, who has inspired a fascination with the environment in generations of participants, including some of the current SVCA staff.

The Maitland Conservation Foundation (MCF) works in partnership with Maitland Conservation (MC) to raise funds for various watershed projects. The Foundation is in the second year of its five-year ‘Inspired by Nature’ fundraising campaign to raise $650,000.

It appears Howick may have missed their chance to be included in the Huron OPP detachment board, although they were only given three days’ notice.

North Huron council recently requested that staff review the township’s current Donation and Fee Waiving Policy. That review was presented to council at the Dec. 4 regular council meeting.

Coun. Lonnie Whitfield pulled two items from the correspondence received for information by North Huron council during the Dec.4 council meeting.

Chris Townes, director of finance for North Huron, said that during the Nov. 20 meeting, North Huron councillors did not ask him to provide information regarding which municipalities he contacted in the alleged research to compare recreation fees and charges before updating the 2024 fee schedule.

Wingham Branch 180 of the Royal Canadian Legion hosted its annual Breakfast with Santa event on Saturday morning, Dec. 2. Countless tykes were able to not only get a photo and have a one-on-one wish list chat with the man in red, but also enjoy some delicious eats courtesy of hard-working volunteers

A complaint from a Wingham resident sparked a discussion about snow removal policies at the end of the regular North Huron council meeting on Dec. 4, leading to an unplanned notice of motion to review the current snow removal policy in North Huron.
