I have some exciting news to share with you. Earlier this year, I submitted an application to the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) and CBC Indigenous for a journalism fellowship opportunity. I was not one of the selected journalists.

It has come to the attention of a lot of us that the best deals on everything from retail to entertainment are probably found right here at home.

Murder and humour don’t usually go together. Perhaps the only exception is in Resort to Murder by Brigitte Solem, on stage at the Blyth Festival Theatre’s Memorial Hall.

Among my favorite movies is The Butterfly Effect. The 2004 film features Ashton Kutcher as a troubled time traveller who discovers, to his chagrin, that attempts to correct mistakes in the past can generate unintended consequences for the future. 

With the arrival of Canada Day, many of us muse about what it means to be Canadian.

When you think of a champion, what comes to mind? Perhaps an athlete with a gold medal or a student winning an academic trophy? But what about another type of champion, the people who stand up for and defend our democracy – not with physical prowess, but with their words.
