WINGHAM – Britespan Building Systems Inc. has made history by donating $1,000,000 to support the Wingham & District Hospital Foundation’s (WDHF) Caring Together capital campaign.
The goal of the campaign is to raise $2.5 million for a new CT Scanner, which is well on its way to achieving 50 per cent of that goal thanks to Britespan’s donation.
The million-dollar donation from Britespan marks the largest single gift WDHF has ever received. WDHF says the donation comes at an ideal time, as the need to enhance the diagnostic imaging department with an on-site CT Scanner has become a critical priority.
“This incredible gift from Britespan will transform the face of our hospital. Their generosity will be reflected in the experience of every patient who receives a CT scan close to home,” said Nicole Duquette-Jutzi, WDHF executive director.
Currently patients who need CT scans in Wingham are transported to Listowel. Officials say having CT available on site will be faster, safer and save money.
Having a local CT will allow for better utilization of scarce nursing and financial resources. Reducing travel will also allow more patients to receive care they might not otherwise be able to access.
Britespan co-owner Ben Hogervorst spoke to the gift.
“As a local family business, Rob Stute and I have always believed in the importance of supporting the local community. We have been putting money aside for several years now so that when the special need arose, we could step up and give in a big way. Wingham is where the majority of our staff come for their hospital care. We feel that responsibility to our community,” said Hogervost.
The Caring Together fundraising campaign is a vital step to securing a CT Scanner for the Wingham & District Hospital. The gift from Britespan will go a long way to making it a success. Mark Foxton, chair of the Caring Together campaign, received the donation saying, “The Britespan team has been a longtime supporter of the hospital and this gift cements them as true philanthropic leaders in our community. It’s my hope that this will inspire others to join them in supporting this important project.”
