Bootlegging, logging and man-eating plants: Greenock Swamp has it all

GREENOCK SWAMP – Who would guess that tours of the Greenock Swamp could be so interesting?

The Cargill and Greenock Swamp Promotional Association (CGSPA), offers three different tours that focus on the shenanigans that took place in the swamp, making for great legends, and rural myths!

Learn about the bootlegging that took place in the swamp, the massive logging operations and much more!

There are three different tours which encompass three different and unique experiences.

Mystery, stories and lore abound in this incredible 20,000-acre wetland, from man-eating plants, to quicksand and the mysterious green lights that drove early surveyors running for their lives. “It’s all about bringing history alive,” stated Shannon Wood with the CGSPA.

Local actors bring some of the historical characters to life and interact with the audience, making it fun and entertaining. The tours include bus transportation, visits to historical buildings, wine and /or beer tasting, and a full course Bruce County church supper to finish off the day. Other surprises take place throughout the day.

Featured tours include Bootlegging Lore of the Great Swamp (Saturday, June 17), Legends of the Great Swamp (Saturday, July 15) and The Great Bank Heist (Saturday, Aug. 26). All tours start and conclude at the historic church in Chepstow, 2 p.m. -7 p.m. Bus transportation is provided from there.

These tours make great gifts, and provide a unique experience for visitors to the area.
