Auxiliary comes through for Listowel Memorial Hospital purchases

LISTOWEL – What do a fetal heart monitor, a trauma stretcher and a laproscopic grasper have in common? They are all pieces of medical equipment that the Listowel Memorial Hospital Auxiliary was able to purchase for LMH using the $20,100 raised through various fundraisers in 2022. The re-opening of the auxiliary’s hospital gift shop after two years of COVID-related shutdown, silent auction, sale of harvest baskets, Listowel Greenhouses fundraiser and bake sales all helped the Auxiliary meet and exceed its goal for 2022.

The club is currently fundraising towards its 2023 project. A bariatric bed is an oversized bed used to accommodate patients that are overweight for a standard hospital bed. LMH has been renting a bariatric bed when required, and this addition to the hospital will eliminate the need for that rental expense.

Some of the projects that are planned for this year include the Listowel Greenhouses fundraiser, which will take place during Mother’s Day weekend on May 12-13, and a fall online silent auction and a volunteer thanks event. During the month of April – Volunteer Appreciation Month – the club is asking social media users to post thanks to any volunteers they know and appreciate. And it is encouraged to make a donation to a group, club or organization to honour volunteers.

Those who do not use social media are encouraged to write a letter to the editor of their local newspaper.

The LMH Auxiliary’s gift shop is open weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (as volunteers are available) and carries clothing, home décor, purses, hats, jewelry, baby gifts, books and more. It is a hidden gem in our town.

The Auxiliary is grateful to the staff of LMH, volunteers, customers and promoters of the shop and events. Follow on Facebook – Listowel Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
