MIDWESTERN ONTARIO – The 20th annual CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon took to the airwaves on Oct. 16, once again proving to be a dynamic partner in fundraising for rural midwestern Ontario health care. $506,053.83 was raised in support of 12 area hospitals.
Continuing with a virtual format again this year, donations were accepted during the all-day broadcast on AM920, which featured heart-warming stories from patients, as well as interviews with health care professionals and volunteers detailing the equipment needs at each participating hospital. A number of philanthropic businesses and organizations, including Bruce Power and Howick Mutual, directed special gifts towards several hospital foundations.
Among the projects funded by this year’s Radiothon are: X-ray machines, an ultrasound unit, cardiac monitors, an anaesthetic gas machine and a mammography digital imaging machine.
Locally, the Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation received $58,675.95 of its $70,000 goal. This total is expected to grow as the participating hospital foundations continue to accept donations towards their projects until the end of the year.
This year’s CKNX Radiothon benefitted the following 12 hospital foundations:
- Alexandra Marine & General Hospital Foundation
- Bruce Peninsula Health Services Foundation
- Centre Grey Health Services Foundation
- Chesley Hospital Foundation
- Clinton Hospital Foundation
- Hanover & District Hospital Foundation
